Let’s be honest: the bathroom is easily one of the most overlooked rooms in the house. And it’s not really a surprise, when you think about it. It’s a room designated solely for bathing, washing your hands, brushing your teeth, and…well, other private activities. Even so, that’s no reason for your bathroom to be unattractive. Everyone needs a pleasant spot to do their business.
But remodels aren’t exactly inexpensive; and it’s hard to justify doing expensive renovations to a room where you don’t spend too much time. However, there are ways to upgrade your bathroom without breaking the bank! Here are a few ideas.
Upgrade Your Accessories
Even if your bathroom is a little outdated, you can easily make the whole room feel new by simply changing out a few features. Replace that boring mirror with a stylish medicine cabinet and swap out your vanity hardware with chic nobs and pulls. Change out the fixtures on your faucet for something cute and vintage. Add some chic shelving for your extra towels. Sometimes the little details can make the biggest difference!
Retile the Floor or Countertop
Replacing the tiles on your bathroom counters is an easy DIY job, and not particularly expensive. You may need some help retiling the bathroom floor, but even that can be done for relatively little money. New tile, especially if it contrasts or enhances the other bathroom fixtures, can immediately make your bathroom look clean and stylish.
Decorate!
If you’re anything like me, you often forget that those bathroom walls are completely bare but for a couple mirrors and hooks for towels. Don’t be afraid to go wild with the wall decor. Hang paintings and cute antique signs. Frame family photos. Attach vinyl decals to the walls. You have just as many possibilities when it comes to decorating the bathroom as you do in the rest of the house.
Paint the Walls
There’s nothing like a new coat of paint to update any room. Consider painting your bathroom walls a bright sunny color – yellow or perhaps turquoise with white trim. The look will make the bathroom feel that much bigger, and it will feel welcoming in spite of the fact that it’s a room for, well… private things.
Now that you have a few ideas on how to give your bathroom a DIY update, it’s time to scribble out some plans, head to the nearest hardware store and go crazy!
